Laparoscopic Intestinal Surgery
Surgery of the intestines refers to both the small and large intestines. Surgery of the small intestine may be indicated in patients presenting with Strictures, benign tumors and Meckel’s diverticulum. Surgery aims at removing the compromised sections of the small intestine.
Before the advent of Minimally invasive surgery, the surgeons had to make large incisional cuts in the abdomen to locate the compromised sections. With large incisions, came the risk of infection, increased bleeding, scarring, longer post operative recovery periods and immense pain with restriction of movement.
The AyILS team was the first of its kind in the Asian subcontinent and worked with singular determination to develop, evaluate and propagate minimal access (laparoscopic surgery) in India. The Ayushman team advanced the concept of specialized teams to exclusively practice and develop Minimal Access techniques in surgery. Laparoscopic techniques made intestinal surgeries much less cumbersome and surgeons experienced a dramatic rise in patient satisfaction levels. There was no scarring as tiny keyhole incisions are made to operate. Post operative pain was much lesser and the patients were able to resume their basic daily activities maximum in a day. Post operative recovery period was much shorter and there was no scarring.
The Ayushman team is practicing at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, where it has set up the Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The institute is recognized to be a Global Center of Excellence in Endosurgery today. The Institute has been awarded the “Founder” title and accredited as “International Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery (ICE)” by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), USA and Center of Excellence in Endohernia Surgery by Asia Pacific Hernia Society. In addition all five consultant surgeons in the team are accredited Surgeons of Excellence by (SRC), USA. The Institute is equipped with state of the art operation theaters and quality equipment that contributes efforming the best industrial practices. The team has set up standard protocols for operating and patient safety and has meticulously followed them over the years which has fetched them these laurels.
