Laparoscopic Surgery for Appendicitis

Appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix due to its inflammation which causes severe pain. Laparoscopic Appendectomy was practiced by the AyILS team about two decades back and today it is the ‘gold standard’ for appendix removal.

Over the years, minimally invasive surgery has proved to provide better patient outcomes as compared to conventional open surgeries. Earlier, removing an inflamed appendix involved large incisions and long suturing which increased the post operative pain and discomfort for the patient, increased the risk of infection and of course gave poor cosmetic results. With laparoscopic appendectomy, the patient incurs tiny incisions (key-hole) and recover very fast with minimal pain. Moreover, the hospital stays also reduce with the minimally invasive approach thus providing superior economic outcomes too.

Surgical removal of the appendix causes no observable health problems as it has no known function in the human body.

The Ayushman team advanced the concept of specialized teams to exclusively practice, propagate and develop Minimal Access techniques in surgery. The Ayushman team is practicing at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi since 2009 and has set up the Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The institute is recognized to be a Global Center of Excellence in Endosurgery today. The Institute has been awarded the “Founder” title and accredited as “International Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery (ICE)” by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), USA and Center of Excellence in Endohernia Surgery by Asia Pacific Hernia Society. In addition all five consultant surgeons in the team are accredited Surgeons of Excellence by (SRC), USA. The Institute is equipped with state of the art operation theaters and quality equipment that contributes efforming the best industrial practices. Surgical and Anesthesia protocols are in place so that patients reap the benefits of faster recovery, lesser post operative pain and minimal post surgical complication.
